About the Family
A warm American-Canadian family in Prenzlauer Berg is looking for a playful, nurturing and reliable nanny to care for their baby boy. Both parents work in the tech industry, with one parent working from home during the afternoons and evenings and the other preparing to return to work after taking time off to care for their son.
Their little boy is sociable, curious and enjoys interacting with people. He is beginning Kita in October, and the family would love to find someone who can provide consistent, loving care as he settles into his new routine.
The family values reading, play, healthy nutrition and open communication. They have a large collection of children’s books in English and German and would particularly appreciate a nanny who enjoys reading aloud and supporting early language development.
They are hoping to build a lasting relationship with someone who will become a trusted part of their son’s life for years to come.
About the Role
The nanny will primarily provide afternoon childcare, eventually including Kita pick-ups once the child has settled into his new routine. The Kita is located a short tram ride from the family’s home.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Picking up the child from Kita and bringing him home safely
- Preparing nutritious, age-appropriate snacks and meals
- Reading, playing and engaging in developmentally appropriate activities
- Taking the child to nearby parks and playgrounds
- Helping with bath time and the evening routine
- Supporting consistent nap and feeding routines, including communicating with the parents about meals and sleep
- Handing over to a parent around 19:00
Both parents have separate home offices, allowing the nanny to work independently while having support nearby when needed.
Flexibility for occasional additional hours, particularly during business trips, would be appreciated but is not essential.
About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal nanny is warm, playful, patient and genuinely enthusiastic about caring for babies and young children. The family is particularly interested in someone who enjoys supporting children’s development through reading, conversation, play and everyday experiences.
Must-have qualifications and qualities:
- Good English communication skills
- Reliable, honest, trustworthy and proactive
- Comfortable preparing nutritious, age-appropriate meals
- Non-smoker
- Willingness to follow the family’s health and hygiene precautions, including proactive communication about illness symptoms
- Respectful of the family’s approach to feeding, sleep and childcare
Nice-to-have qualities:
- German language skills to support the child’s bilingual development
- Flexibility for occasional weekends, evenings or extended weekday shifts
- Experience supporting babies through the transition into Kita
- Interest in a long-term position with the family
Due to severe animal allergies in the household, candidates must also be mindful of bringing pet hair or other animal allergens into the home.
A Note from the Family
Finding the right personal connection is the family’s highest priority. They are open-minded about different backgrounds and experiences and would love to meet someone who genuinely connects with their son and shares their values of kindness, trust and communication.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a caring nanny seeking a stable, long-term role with a thoughtful and welcoming family in Prenzlauer Berg.
