A family in Berlin-Charlottenburg is looking for a calm, caring nanny to support them primarily with their nine-month-old baby daughter.

The family also has an energetic five-year-old son. He attends kindergarten during almost all the nanny’s working hours, so the role is focused on his younger sister, with very occasional kindergarten pick-ups.

The parents value gentle, respectful childcare with an emphasis on emotional safety and connection. Mum is currently on parental leave and Dad works primarily from home, making this initially a supportive childcare role rather than a sole-charge position. They hope the nanny will gradually become more independent with the baby as trust develops.

The Role

The nanny will care for and engage with the baby while supporting the family’s daily routine. Responsibilities include:

  • Playing and engaging with the baby
  • Caring for her while Mum has meetings, appointments or time for herself
  • Taking walks around the local area and nearby Schlossgarten
  • Supporting BLW and spoon-feeding
  • Preparing simple baby meals and snacks
  • Supporting daytime naps at home or in the stroller
  • Cleaning up after meals and organising baby items
  • Helping with light household tasks and simple cooking for the children, when possible
  • Very occasionally collecting the older child from nearby kindergarten

Dad occasionally travels for work, usually once or twice per month. During these periods, the nanny will be an especially valuable source of practical support for Mum.

Who They’re Looking For

For this family, character matters more than an extensive professional nanny CV. They are looking for someone loving, enthusiastic and trustworthy who genuinely enjoys babies.

The ideal nanny will be:

  • Warm, patient, nurturing and emotionally stable
  • Calm and kind when a baby is crying, tired or unsettled
  • Professional, reliable and punctual
  • Fully attentive and not distracted by phone use
  • Gentle and respectful of children’s emotional needs
  • Comfortable following the parents’ routines
  • Open and transparent about accidents, mistakes or concerns
  • Collaborative and comfortable working alongside parents
  • Attentive to hygiene and safe childcare practices
  • A non-smoker
  • Trained in baby first aid and choking response

Previous infant experience is an advantage, but the family is open to someone still developing their professional baby-care experience if they demonstrate maturity, good judgement and a genuinely caring attitude.

Open communication is important on both sides. The family wants their nanny to feel comfortable speaking up if she needs support or a break rather than becoming overwhelmed.

A Supportive First Baby Role

This is a great opportunity for a nanny who wants to build further hands-on infant experience in a supportive environment. Mum will generally be nearby, particularly at the beginning, with the nanny taking on greater independence as the relationship develops.

The baby currently combines baby-led weaning with spoon-feeding and generally takes two to three daytime naps.

The family hopes to find someone who will become a trusted part of their routine and help make daily life with two young children calmer and more manageable. The initial contract is for nine months, with the possibility of a longer-term arrangement if it is a good fit for everyone.
