Frequently asked questions
I am visiting Berlin and want a babysitter to come to my hotel. Is this possible?
Absolutely. We arrange babysitters for visiting families all the time, or short term nannies if you’ll be in town for over a week and want to have the same person every day. Learn more about our short term nanny service.
How does the babysitting subscription work?
For €100 per month, you’ll get 4 babysitting bookings per month. You must sign up for a minimum of 6 months. Subscriptions start on the 1st or 15th of each month.
Is it possible to get the same babysitter each time?
We will make every effort to make sure you are assigned the same babysitter every time. However, we can’t always guarantee that your favorite sitter will be available for every booking. For a regular arrangement, consider a part time nanny instead.
How do I pay?
You’ll receive two invoices: one for your booking fee from the agency, and then a separate invoice from your nanny. Your agency booking fee can be paid via credit card, and your nanny should ideally be paid via bank transfer. If you are a visiting family and don’t have an EU bank account, please ask us about other payment options.
Are babysitting services tax deductible?
Eligible childcare costs in Germany can be deducted from taxable income: since 2025, 80% of qualifying costs, up to €4,800 per child per year. Conditions apply, including the child’s age and evidence of the costs and payment.
Keep your invoices and bank-transfer records, and ask your tax adviser which costs qualify for your family. Read more on childcare tax deductions in Germany.
Are the babysitters employees or freelancers?
All the babysitters in the Lighthouse Nanny team are registered freelancers. This means they send invoices for their work, and are able to work on an ad hoc basis.
We found a babysitter we love and we want her to be our nanny. Is this possible?
Sometimes! Whether or not a babysitter is willing to take on a regular long term employment contract with a family will depend on the caregiver. Send us a message and we’ll see what we can do!
